Discription/Location: This is the 5th oldest triathlon West of the Mississippi River. And here is why: It is The most beautiful course in the entire Southwest. Right after the monsoon season with flora in full bloom. Our 24th annual event with fun, prizes and a great course. Nine miles south of Flagstaff, AZ on Lake Mary Road at mile post 333. THE SWIM: This is the City of Flagstaff reservoir: Upper Lake Mary and IT IS FULL! Average lake temperature for the last 8 years has been exactly 71° F. Wetsuits OK. Wave starts. To increase tourism, the City of Flagstaff now supplies it citizens with well water rather then depleting this beautiful lake. This is our 24th year for the Mountain Man Triathlon. THE BIKE: Is there a more beautiful bike course in the West? Out and back course on paved roads with wide bike shoulders. Olympic and half courses has three consecutive hills near the turnaround. Beautiful vistas with lake views the whole way. Sprint course is relatively flat. 70.3 Half: Hilly course with nothing steeper than 395 feet and great views of San Francisco Peaks. Race numbers must be attached to your bike frame. Cyclists are personally responsible for the proper workingcondition of their bike. Bike helmets are required. Run and Bike elevations.

THE RUN: Out and back run on paved roads along beautiful Lake Mary. Olympic course climbs a decent hill (385') and sprint course is flat. 70.3 Half course climbs the same hill and then is flat for 10 miles. Race numbers must be worn and visible from the front. Water aid stations are every 1.2 miles. Run defensively and follow all instructions of safety personnel. Traffic will not be stopped for this event, except at the intersections and turnarounds and then at the discretion of the safety personnel.

THE WEATHER: Warm and sunny. Could be a little cool in the early morning. The Flagstaff monsoon season should also be through, but check the local weather forecast for rain. Check below under "links" for current weather conditions. USA Tri Membership: This is a USAT sanctioned event. You must be an annual member and have your membership card with you OR pay a one-day event fee of $10 at packet pickup.You may also purchase it on line through USAT an annual membership for $39.

Late Registration & Race Packet Pick Up: At race site on Saturday July 19 from 2PM to 6PM. All athlets must present a picture ID to pick up their packet. You can only get your own packet, not any other competitors packet. We would like all triathletes to pick up during this time. If you can't make it, please get your packet on event morning at least 45 minutes prior to the start of your event.


Hotel/Camping: Check out all over night accommadations at: Flagstaff Hotel/Motels. Several US Forest Service campgrounds are located on the course. They don't take reservations and are on a first come first serve basis. Also, camping is allowed anywhere in the Coconino National Forest but not in the transistion

Age group and relay awards are plaques 5 year age groups from 19 and under to 85 +. Sprint: add 14 and under and 15 to 19 age groups . All finishers get finisher medals.

  • Cancellation Policy: There are NO REFUNDS. You can cancel up to 15 days prior to MME event for a transfer (less any Active.com charges) of funds to another MME event within the next 12 months. With 14 days or less before event, there are no transfers. You can switch divisions at any time prior to race day for a $5 adm fee +/- any entry fee differences. Don't you wish all events had this liberal policy?
