Course & location overview only:
Directions: Event is at Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LMNRA). From Las Vegas take I-515 South (also known as: Hwy 93/95). Interstate stops at Railroad Pass Casino and Hwy 93 continues through Boulder City. Go down the large hill and turn left at the Alan Bible Visitor Center onto Lakeshore Drive. This point is exactly four miles from Hoover Dam. Boulder Beach and the transition area are two miles down this road next to the Boulder Beach Ranger station.
The Swim: LMNRA Boulder Beach swim with the transition area next to the water. We expect the water temperature will be 76° F ± 2° (25° C). Wetsuits therefore will be triathletes choice. Yes or no, you decide. There will be plenty of daylight for the start of this race. Start on North boat ramp and finish on the South boat ramp. WETSUITS are OK.
The Bike: Flatest bike course in Las Vegas. No steep climb of 1425' hill at this event. Entirely within the National Park with low traffic.
- Sprint: One loop going west on Lakeshore Drive. Change from last year: Turnaround at 5.2 mile
post and continue back to Lakeshore Drive Eastbound. Go past Boulder
Beach and the East Toll Booth and turnaround at the Historic Railroad parking lot. Return to Boulder
Beach. Tip: This course is relatively flat with some small hills and is now 20K.
- Olympic: One loop on Lakeshore Road. Go West on Lakeshore Drive to all the way
to the West Toll Booth and turnaround. Go PAST Boulder Beach turnoff
all the way past the East Toll Booth for one mile and turnaround at the Historic Railroad parking lot and then back to Boulder Beach.
Tip: This course has rolling hills with one decent hill. There are no water aid stations
on the Olympic or sprint bike course. Please bring at least two water
bottles with you.
- 70.3 Half: Cut off time for the half swim and bike is 4:45 hous. You will not be allowed to start the run past this time. Follows Lakeshore Drive and turn right onto Northshore Road to the turnaround
at mile post 18.1. Course then repeats DIRECTLY back to the transition
area. 70.3 Half bike
course has two water, food and gatorade station at start of Northshore Rd and the turnaround. Cyclists
are personally responsible for the proper working condition of their
bike. Bike helmets are required. No drafting. Athletes must remain a
minimum of two bike lengths behind competitor unless passing. Violation
results in disqualification. Traffic will not be stopped for this event,
except at the turnarounds and then at the discretion of the police.
Please obey the police and safety personnel at intersections and turnarounds.
The
Run: A scenic run along beach on packed and paved
roads.
- Sprint is almost flat and goes along lakeside and up Hemenway Harbor road for 50 yards and turnaround.
- Olympic continues on the new paved trail almost to the Historic Railroad Trail parking lot and turnaround.
- Half Iron continues onto the historic railroad paved trail
. This portion of the run course is on the "Six Tunnels Half Marathon Course". Water aid stations
are every 1.4 miles with both water and Gatorade. Race numbers must
be worn and visible from the front. Water aid stations every 1 mile.
