| That was 1931. | This is now, 2005. Same tunnel as left photo, viewed from opposite end. | All are actual tunnels for this event and very short in length. |
| Course Description:
Tired of the same old races? Then try
something really different. Run is on old railroad track long since
removed and now part of the Rail-to-Trails Conservancy and the Lake
Mead National Recreation Area. We run right above Lake Mead for entire
event. Route is on packed trails with a two loose sections of 70 yards
each. No steep climbs here, but there are gradual "grades"
(3.2%) used in the hauling of supplies to Hoover Dam. Entire elevation
gain/loss is only 292 feet. The runner passes through six (6) tunnels
on this course in each direction. This is a spectator friendly event,
so please bring your family. There is no vehicular traffic on this
course, so you may take as long as you want to finish this event.
However, the race clock stops at 11:45 AM, and those finishing after
this, will not receive a finish time. Aid stations every two miles
with water and sport energy drink. Read more about this scenic course:

| Above photo is just 1.4 miles from Hoover Dam. Look for owls, antelope and (Sonoran) desert bighorn sheep and maybe even the very elusive Mountain Man. You will view scenic Lake Mead for the entire distance. Water aid stations every two miles. | Desert bighorn sheep as seen at mile 3 (Ski cove). | |
